It occurred to me that conversing is sharing heart and caring and this then can go back and forth across the centuries. Can we love these people 300 years before, 300 years ahead? Are we only better than they, and can ignore them? Can they stand in our face? What humanity do we share, and might we use our sharing to nurture humanity to be more sharing, caring, and kind?

Turn to people who are already conversing across generations.

Keep moving…the stories.

Conversing is sharing. In this way our conversing can traverse time, space, other. Sharing what? Field, ground, spirit, being, essence.

So can we converse across the centuries? Can we cultivate a kinder humanity? I do not know. How can we know unless we try?

Work from the people, pulling out what is true for this small group, proposing it to the world for adoption.

Can we converse back from the future? Why?

how we converse

It is our task as elders to nudge out the circle of human compassion to include all, as Albert Schweitzer taught.

The trick to conversing with people 300 years apart from us, as with those at our elbow, is to love one another into wholeness.

We can role-play a conversation across generations, such as: storyteller, playmate, model. What are the possible life-enhancing roles we can have across centuries?

Converse with the 300 year elder can go both ways. If story is a good path, then we ought read stories of elders of 1719, and see what they evoke in us. We then communicate that back and forward in our own stories, our own meanings. Our pebble in the pond has ripples in more than one dimension. We might wake up in a kinder world.

We might also converse by observing what kinds of stories people wrote in those years.

But does reading their stories constitute a conversation? Not if we expect a back and forth you said I say. Yes, if we make it our own, and converse with the author via journal. Or display the conversation in short story or article. Does the ripple go up and down as well?
