Footprints in the Windsm # 1917–My sister hugged my daughter in law

Footprints in the Windsm # 1917

My sister hugged my daughter in law
On Thanksgiving evening
My daughter in law’s mother is dying
Losing energy, losing memory
Slipping away, surely, over too few months
Her father too is sliding into a long good-bye
So my sister sat down next to my daughter in law
And God hugged my daughter in law helplessly

Hope is an enemy

Hope is an enemy
Dashing us on rocks
Of futures we do not want
Whatever we hope
Will never be

Story to teach questions?

How would you design a story to teach asking better questions? What if you were not teaching but inviting?

Footprints in the Windsm # 1916–It’s up to me to change the world

Footprints in the Windsm # 1916

It’s up to me to change the world. Starting with changing me: seeing that I can change something in me that others may or may not change in themselves. Trust people. Meet people. Say the larger thing. Maybe they will: that does not matter. I have increased the world’s net conversing.

Draw me a look like

For dying patients and their families, the same question as for their doctors and nurses: What does that look like? Especially for the patients and families: What do you want it to look like, and not look like? Draw me a picture.

Noticing offerings?

Offerings:
We are always
offering
Everyone offers
their true selves
offering
Are we
noticing
theirs
ours
Hold?

Machines don’t have conversation

The machines don’t have conversation. They have exchange of information. They do not have community, nor gathering, nor difference of opinion. They might eventually have these things. But the thinking of their developers so far seems to miss these shining but hidden essentials.

Footprints in the Windsm # 1915–Dollop of randomness

Footprints in the Windsm # 1915

Story may be a probabilistic fractal: where stories are applied with a dollop of randomness in each succeeding generation so that humanicity develops meaning.

So we cannot, ought not, seek to bestow our truth on the generations. Better we can ask them to develop their own. Give them a recipe to make recipes. Maybe they will pass along an even more fundamental recipe creation recipe.

What adds especial interest to this flow is the additional feedback loops that become possible as we find ways to extend lives: imagine an elder at 120 hearing a new truth from elders at 80 and 110, and together they bring forth an entirely new generation of truth.

Footprints in the Windsm # 1914–Across valleys and generations

Footprints in the Windsm # 1914

Humanicity is the quality of being human: the silver thread running through us all: the still small song heard across the valleys and the generations. Humanity is the eternal mid-point: the egg and the poult: the past and the potential: the endless dusty road and the breathtaking vistas.
