Fire to keep?
What fire can we keep so later ones might come here to get a coal?
:- Doug.
We initiate embedding ourselves in their 300 year away lives by embedding them in ours. We make us context for one another.
:- Doug.
If we can have a 5th 3rd bank, we can have a 1st 4th generation. And that generation is vastly more important to the species.
:- Doug.
1st 4th generation + story + 300 years + conversation = ? Recipe? Recipe for intentionally finding better ways to be human?
:- Doug.
Joelle responded to yesterday’s Footprintsm saying “I like the way you so often manage to get clear to the heart of an issue.” I do not feel I have yet reached the heart of the question. Maybe I am pointing there. So far to go, maybe it is an infinity-question!
:- Doug.
So can we speak in normal back and forth conversation with 300-year people? Who is to say back and forth is the standard? Are there other forms of give and take? Can we give to the people of the 1700s, can we take from the people of the 2300s? We can give homage and respect; we can receive inspiration and pull, and a desire to give forward, give essence, imbue kindness. It is a matter of what we think possible, a matter of expanding our imaginations. So the standard could be spinning in dance, turning over compost, dwelling with one another, changing one another, tickling one another.
:- Doug.
Being intentional about reaching out to the plus and minus 300-year people, we would be among the few, perhaps among the first to do so.
:- Doug.
On the possibility of conversing with the 300-year people: writing and reading, reflecting, developing congruence, touching, being touched: all these are ways readily open to us. We can get us talking, get them talking, get us hearing. Sharing and caring and being kind. Sharing what? Field, ground, spirit, being, essence. Storying. Heart to heart to heart. Storyteller, playmate, model. Journaling, making the story your own. Myth-making, imagining. Converse with Lincoln, Gandhi, Sacagawea.
:- Doug.
Writing and reading, letting the other work upon us, letting us work upon us and the other, this is a form of converse.
:- Doug.
As counselor I have permission to ask probing questions. As human I too.
:- Doug.
We travel time on the page or screen, not even noticing our brief or longer jaunts. If we noticed….
:- Doug.
When we are writing reflectively, we could be reflecting those of other centuries. When we reflect upon these other lives our lives here today develop congruently with these. This is the meeting, the conversing. This is each in-forming the other. We are touching and being touched by a conversing universal.
:- Doug.
Could conversing with 300 year people be an art form? A life-sustaining skill?
:- Doug.
Maybe
paying attention to yourself
is your task
telling your stories
your gift
and the life of life itself
would be kinder
:- Doug.
To hear backwards just get them talking
To be heard backwards just get talking
