Get a say
Radical meeting of those of the generations would involve radical welcome—going out to them, “putting ourselves out,” inconveniencing ourselves, wobbling our lives, giving away or spending away our resources. We would have to see thro’ our imaginative eyes, hear thro’ our imaginative ears, feel thro’ our imaginative entrails—and work at it for days and years. They now get a say in how our house is organized and its daily schedules changed. What we’ve “always done” we will do no more. Frighteningly, we get this say in their lives. We are, after all, members of one another’s household.
