Crack conversation?
How do we crack conversation?
:- Doug.
Conversations are seeds
sacred to the generations
for they carry life
:- Doug.
Where we focus our attention in conversation is of high importance. We are inventing new resources, engendering new living sparks. We can move in two directions: to develop and to concentrate.
:- Doug.
Intention is a conversation in which the intender speaks to the intended—and is answered back.
:- Doug.
To converse with someone different is big work—so we usually stay with people with whom we are comfortable. Comfortable means we have stopped working to know these marvelously kaleidoscopic persons. It takes supreme effort to twist the tube, to turn our ears to hear. Really hear: now. Find a new person. Even here where you are comfortable.

There are many mysteries of this thing called human: love—when do we?, why do we?, why does it surprise?; sex: we know it, we want it, we hold back, then we decide to go but it is a big jump when we do, and then it builds and builds and then. . .; big decisions: we study, we list for and against, we come to the edge, shrink back, then leap; love for all the people on this blue marble: we don’t know them, we cannot know them, and yet the tug when we hear of tragedies and needs; love for this blue marble itself and our place on it: just a hunk of rock spinning in the blackness, merely some collection of earth and water and family and memory, why are we so drawn?, is it more than emotion? One of the mysteries is conversation: why are we drawn to these people, often to any people?, why do we need to be heard?, why do our mother’s eyes, our father’s eyes, our lover’s eyes, bring us to life?
Please pass it on.

The client is the conversation; the conversation makes its own metaphors.
:- Doug.
In a conversation the participants are engaged in discovering their relationship, including the conversation itself. Consciously or otherwise. Actively or otherwise. They work to find a key to what is this conversation, and their relationship, and the world touching them: how it all works, how to open it, use it, enjoy it. They—we—use symbols, metaphors, to be keys to try. The conversation itself is the facilitator.
:- Doug.
Metaphor gives form to mystery, to the hidden, to the lost: to life.
:- Doug.
If we could name it, the purpose of conversation is to meet, to live. We are not transforming the other, nor us together nor apart. Living lives. Living grows. Conversation lives. Conversation grows.
:- Doug.
At times the most effective thing one can do is stand out of the way.
