In the stew and the stir

We can do well, by getting lost in conversation, yes? I used to think you together had to reach a decision about the subject of the conversation. As if there were only one subject! Actually there is—the conversation is its own subject, its own reason for meandering as it does, steeping us in something. There may be more depth in here than we realize while we’re in the stew and the stir.

Finding home in a foreign land

This conversation is ours, not because we hosted it, but because we cared for it. We are taking a cognitive journey home in this conversation. It is foreign lands to us, so how do we find ourselves at home here? Find the stories. In you. In others. Plant stories in each other. Care for the others. Care for the conversation. Then your cognitive journey begins. Metaphors grow. Moral behavior seeps through. You find you are making your way home. You are conversation. You are home.

Shows how we all fit

“They used to meet across the road and we just keep that lectern here for them. But the younger people are not so interested in community service,” the older proprietor told me. I like talking with older people. Their talk is soft and gentle. It takes a long view. It shows how we all fit. Conversation of the long view.
