Surely we don’t want

We use words without thinking as deeply as is available to us. Take “Have a discussion” as an example. We could say “Let’s talk.” But “Have a discussion” sounds so much more substantial: it is formal, aloof, even academic. If we want to come together these are not what we want. Deeper, the roots of discuss suggest violence: percussion, concussion, surely we don’t want striking either.

Wind-blown these footprints
in spirit’s conversations
a-drifting am I

The drift’s the thing

The drift of my words is the thing, not the particular, not any one set of them, each is a leaf, but the grass is more.
