These days we die so gradually we barely notice. Then comes the crisis—and we’re unprepared. So let’s work out how we can notice, perhaps prepare. We get weaker. There are ups and downs. People offer to help. We can resolve to let them, as an act of love. We can consider our life and its meaning. We can contemplate how to make this chapter a frame for the earlier ones.

Commerce and converse share the notion that trade expands us and our world—our friends, our lives. Commerce deals in good and services; converse is itself a good—and a service—seeing both in their larger meaning of we open ourselves.

Actually converse is not a trade in ideas but in quanta of thinking, quanta of persons. It carries us from T₁ to T₅ and perhaps beyond. Some would say it trades in consciousness.

Open Space is an invitation to commerce…in persons, in the whole.
