Life is full of ups & downs
most we make ourselves
:- Doug.
Where did the baby go?
The rented house is on fire—
Get out! Get out!
Did you get the baby?
Didn’t you?
Frantic search
—I’ll run back in—
No! Here’s the baby buggy
All the blankets and clothes on top
And under it the baby! (me)
O joy! What’s the rest matter?
Years later I’m wondering
How did my true self get piled upon &
Hidden behind masks?
Now I see—I covered me
With caps & gowns, Dollars, Numbers,
Proving myself to employers and clients
Now I see—I can yet reveal
I will reveal
:- Doug.
What blessing
would you like to be
to your people, your world?
:- Doug.
What is behind the metaphor?
Live here

Walk your path

In some cultures the true name of the child is not announced, so that it can grow strong, and not be laughed into smallness by the outside world. We need to guess our own power name, and that of those with whom we walk.

sunsets, flowers and babies
tornadoes, hurricanes, tsunamis and
people helping
heart motions, spirit swells
the paired parts of this human
civilized and wild
what do you want, and what does the deepest part of you desire?
:- Doug.
I am finally finding a way to bring together my law work and my poetry work.
:- Doug.
Part of our depth is but
a pendulum swinging
our swaying leg to leg
:- Doug.
We are here to do deep work
To do deep work, we must hear
…one another
:- Doug.
Life is two:
double
dual
paired
Here we live:
safe & wild
mean & gracious
laughter & tears
Hear, we live
:- Doug.
Life is not competitive. There is competition within life to be sure, but it is within cooperation: to advance life.
:- Doug.
Not suffer:
sacrifice
let us
:- Doug.
Let us turn away from
guilt-edged religion

From a cliff she leaps
the pearl diver
maybe the height helps
her dive so deeply
so quickly
nearly naked with only a knife
if we are to dive into each other
and find the pearls
from what high cliff do we leap?
:- Doug.
Can we stretch one another? Kindly, gently? Is there a way to call together people who do not look the same, who share only breath, and invite them, invite us, to share more?
:- Doug.
There is good all about us, even in those with whom we disagree. Can we engage each other and not vilify?
:- Doug.
