The rational and the sacred

People are not solely rational. People need the supra-rational. People need to include more than just Dollars and Numbers and Bottom Lines, for as sacred as we want to make them, we know these are not the Sacred.

So when I get into an “argument” with the “rational” I need to have a red flag wave: is this All? Is there More? What are our assumptions? What foundations can I see here? Let us reason together and see if they are all true.

Is it true that everybody, or even the majority of people are grabbing for self only? Do you? Do I? Is it true that everybody must pay the same fare for the plane to fly?

Acknowledge the rational, maybe saying it is one way we need to look at it, but not the only way. We need to include the including.

Money is what you will see–or lack of it

If money is the angle from which you look, that is what you will see. People who think in Dollars will see people trying to take their Dollars. People who think in Dollars will be blinded to thinking past Dollars. People who think in Dollars will be attracted to ways to get something for nothing. Are these the people who will change the culture from thinking in Dollars?

We have these differences you and I

We have these differences
You and I
Yet we ever walk
Towards each other
Why? It is who we are
A need for
Trying the filaments
To see how they might fit
Weaving we hope
A pattern beautiful

The brain of community

Learning, memory, creation happen in community. In the brain these move in the synapses, flows, rhythms and pulses—the brain of community. Memory is stored here, learning takes place between us. Meaning is only what is agreed. There! That color: we will call it blue, but how do I know what you actually see? It might be what strikes my eye-brain as red, or green, or something we have no word for. Only in our agreement in community we put a word on it, blue. That limits no experience, but opens us to it.

Flows from here all

Where is the most immediate place you can change the world? With your words you first touch the world beyond your skin, here you state your intention to grab a handle. Flows from here all.

We touch the world first through our mouths. As babies, this is where we physically experience the world. We cry and scream to get our needs met—and they are. Soon we are trying to manipulate the world out there with hands and feet—ever we need to touch what is out there and bring it in here. As we grow we learn that we touch first with our words: we state our design to change the world, with our words we gather people to help us, then we get to work. Seminal is the word. Beginning is word.

Flows from here all.

Community as adjective

Community is in motion. This is defining. So is love. Love is verb, has no meaning as noun except from the action, the motion, the modifying. The community is modified as it modifies. We either grow or decay: both are growth. It is life, it is love, it is motion we want to enable.

Footprints in the Windsm # 843

My reign is not of this world—
Your world of power over
Differentiating
Excluding and dominating
It is of community
Inviting and hearing
Gathering and sharing
There is more power when all have it
More to share when more share
More world when we see it

Dreams to fulfill our dreams

What dreams would fulfill our dreams? Can we dream of a caring society that touches those with whom we find ourselves in community so that there is help for those who need it? Can we dream of volunteers, real people helping real people, with respite and rest part of the mix with embracing?

Remind us that community dreams

Both are part of what is really real: The body calls the spirit into existence, the spirit calls the body into existence. Yet we have eyes the seldom see the spirit, the dream, love, light, vibration, music, dance, others, conversation, intercourse, weave, pattern, rhythm. So our work is to connect people to both, which means an emphasis on the transparent.

Connecting people to their dreams, to our dreams, to dreams of ours. Dreams are ours. Dreams belong to all of us. Each has them, and it is here we are connected to the larger community, which is G*d.

So this is a way forward: Dreams are ours. Remind people of their dreams. Remind us that these dreams always include others. Remind us that dreams take us out of our daily doldrums and into our larger, our future. Remind us that community is where we live and where our lives can be richer, larger.

You can choose life
Or you can choose death
Set before you—the ultimate choice—
Heaven or Earth
Dancing or Trudging
Community or Alone
Flying or Swimming
Embracing or Pushing away
Circles or Straight lines
Waves or Particles
Which will you choose?
I choose all

Punish; restore; many more

People do wrong things. The wrong things that hurt others must not continue. The things that could be better need a kind hand. People also do wonderful things. That is the end of justice: to encourage people to live in peace: wholeness, fullness. Punishment is one way we have seen to go there; restoring is another; there are many more ways.

G*d is community

G*d is community: all of us, all animals, rocks, mountains, waters, planets, stars, quarks: all part of the community that is G*d. G*d is community: what draws us together; who we are as a whole; the filaments that pull us in; the gravity that attracts us to one another: love.
