Conversation demands risk. You think you will risk your little idea and you will. Yet you will risk your very self: changed you will be; dead you will be. Something new may be born, but may not be. Death without rebirth you risk at the hands of another.

Conversation is a turning-point. It is chilling. We shudder. We find ideas we had not wanted to see before. We learn more of what is real. We hash out ideas, kill pet projects, separate the crazy maybe later from the crazy it might just work. We decide to jump off a cliff. Or we decide to walk away from what might have been. If we are to make something happen, only here we decide.

gathering even fear

another of love’s
many names is

The world has gotten too big too complex for one person one brain to hold it all in sense. It is now necessary that we begin to connect minds together.

Companions, friends, sharers of bread I seek, co-creators, co-celebrators, co-rippers of the grey fabric. Rainbows loosed! I will speak to them the visions I have glimpsed and they will share with all our souls their visions. Join. Thus we find and ripen persons for the harvest. When we share the meanings of our lives, we join. It is close, the ripening. Who notices the little “our?” Companions converse!

Only play
play with life
play with happiness
play with others
play with G-d
play with death
play with wisdom
play with creativity.
What else matters?
Play with that as well.
Come to the play-dom:
this is life–
only play.

Why do we go to meetings? In meeting, if open enough, each person’s need is met. The creative creates, the kind expresses caring, the intellect analyzes, the listener hears. Even if the meeting is closed we go away tantalized, expecting that satisfaction is possible. We go home chatting with each other about the stimulations we received, and we come again to meetings hoping beyond experience for a greater portion next time. Because we know it is possible. What we are seeking is to be heard, and something unnameable just beyond and within being heard. We go to meetings because we need to be met. We go to meetings because we need to give. We.

Perhaps it is bigger than that

If you think your calling is
Dictated from on high
And your first task is to find it
Perhaps it is bigger than that.
Perhaps you are given to create it
Whole.

If you think your calling is
Grand, a work of immense proportions
Perhaps it is bigger than that
Perhaps it is created in
Your moments
And little loving gestures.

If you think your calling is
Elsewhere
Perhaps it is bigger than that
Perhaps it is
Here
Now.

What if the people who sought to come here were singers, song writers, ballet dancers, novel writers, doctors, scientists? Would we welcome them? Would we go out of our way to make the way here easier? Would we arrange language lessons and meetings with other creative daring people? Perhaps there are creative daring people among the poor—can we think such a thought? Could they be good for us—all of us? Do they bring a hope and a promise to us when they seek out our hope and promise? Is it then their poverty we seek to exclude? If the cream would elicit our help to contribute, would not the milk? How can we determine who has the larger contribution to be made? By excluding one and welcoming another. Thus we convict ourselves. The more we welcome, the bigger we grow. Thus we acquit ourselves.

Let me ask you some simple questions: Who organizes the rain drops? What is the geometry to prescribe the changing shapes of a cloud? Who among you assigns what each family brings to a potluck? What human hand planted the forests already ancient when humankind first appeared? What board governed the start of the Internet? Can you direct what will excite and interest each of your friends; would you ever want to?

Footprints in the Wind sm # 660

Footprints in the Windsm # 660

We are seeing a bigger world–our neighbor in pain, peace in the clutches of angry combatants, nature at risk, our children to the seventh generation also at risk. At the same time we are seeing a bigger inside–our psyche, our spirits, our oneness with all creation, our relations to the divine. It all adds up to bigger possibilities, bigger futures that extend beyond what we know. Conscious evolution? Maybe. Or maybe something larger.

Footprints in the Windsm # 659

In our age, we have forgotten the way. I am Jesus knew and knew well was a Hebrew name of G-d, the original name G-d called G-d’s self. So we can some days hear Jesus saying I am–G-d is–you are–each creature is–the way, the truth, the life. All is part and parcel of G-d. G-d is made up of this, or more accurately, makes this up. You are the way. Life is the way. Creation is the way. The way is the way. This we have forgotten. We have thought doing something, collecting something, building something, getting known, is the way. No, you are the way. Try to remember…and follow.

We need to seek a larger vision. We need to take on a larger task. Working to get our food and a fancy new car is not worthy of you. Working to help another is. Working together to help people who are suffering is more so.

What is the largest, most urgent task you see to take care of our humanity? Tell me and I will share it with others.

Footprints in the Windsm # 655

The Face of faces Nicholas of Cusa is said to have said, and seen. When I read this last night, it spoke to me. It spoke to me of conversation, and of meeting: the Meeting within and of which all meeting consists.

What is The conversation? What is the meta-conversation? What is the conversation of all time? And eternity?

What is the conversation of conversations? It is about meeting the face of faces. Face to face is a good way to say it: we are meeting, we are seeing, we are being seen, we are seeing through and being seen through, we are one face. The Buddhists have a saying that suggests to me the face before we had a face. The face underneath our face, our masks, our who we think we are, for there is something there that is beneath all that, that is the really real of us. And when we go deeply enough, then we find there the original one, the original face, the real. This is a who, a person, a personal meet-you-met-by-you. In this meeting the real is released, real-ized.

Footprints in the Windsm # 653

Do I need to be doing something more exciting, grander than this? To help others draw upon their hearts floor plans for flying new cathedrals, for awesome communities of creatives?

For I see that grander things are possible, if I go beyond today, if I touch the spark inside and let it set off the real person within.

For I do hold back, I do not let my spark set off the real person inside. I want to fly, I want to explode! My God! What a thing to say! And yet it is my essence that has said it, this something inside that wants to set off my sparks, and sparks of others deep inside, to create grand new worlds, to create inconceivable grand new worlds! O!
