Footprints in the Windsm # 925

In my heart’s eye I saw collections of missing pieces walking around: we are full of holes. When we come to light we fit with others we hear the wind blowing through us and experience that our pieces and our missing pieces fill each other, and channel the winds revealing and creating goodness truth and beauty, revealing and creating.

Speak to hearts. Speak to good, truth, beauty, divinity within people. If others say idealism has no place in the world…. Well, ask them why they still live if not for something better than they can grasp. Ask them what is the best of which they are capable, of which humanity is possible, of which humanity in this place is possible. Invite. Invite even though not all invitations are accepted.

Yesterday was Groundhog’s Day
The groundhog did not see his shadow
Did not run for cover
Stayed out and played
& All wanted to believe
The breeze we felt
Was a breath from
The coming spring

G*d is service, sacrifice for all. G*d is giving her earth for all to grow upon, walk upon, fly within, swim within, her universes to soar within. G*d gives up all and therefore is all. Flowers poke up, babies are born and frolic, poems and symphonies! All from sacrificing. G*d is example. The more we give the more we live.

seek their level
Unlike water

seeking lower pools
we seek worlds higher—
worlds of We may not make it
worlds of sinew and mud—
worlds higher

Footprints in the Windsm # 917

Footprints in the Windsm # 917

I too have a dream—a black woman and a yellow man and a red elder and a white youth are all sitting down together—at no table—in a circle—all equals—hearing—leaning in—working together—inventing conversation—inventing our world—and you are among us—and he and she—we stand boldly and scared—in the face of complaisance and fitting in—daring to be neighbors—daring to invent neighboring—vulnerable and risking to try—getting our hands dirty—an interactive society—growing on—

I too have a dream—government not abdicated to “them” but claimed by us—pockets and pockets of people in every place—making change—living justice and compassion—taking charge—causing a world people love and live and are all they can be—not everyone taking charge for some have no interest or are ill or weak—

I too have a dream—people inventing conversation—deep enough to include the darkness and the light—wide enough to include all voices wanting to be heard—intricate enough to weave them all together to match the intricate dangers and opportunities of life—causally enough to be able to say We did it ourselves—committedly enough to count on each other—

I too have a dream—enormously tangled problems—put right and whole—by distributed mind and heart—a single community mind and heart made up of all who care—a single mind and heart intricate enough to match the tangle—beyond what we used to try to tackle with one leader or head-bashing politics—communitying: giving together—

I too have a dream—sacredness in the physical world—something more—holiness distributed among us—in each of us—accessible to each of us—in-forming each breath we take—G*d entangled with our human life—G*d whose name is conversation—a divine calling in each action we make to include and open and do—

I too have a dream—that this society—this intricacy—this activity—this taking charge—this justice and compassion—this conversation—can happen not in some possible and hoped-for future—because we need it now—I dream that this can happen now—

I too have a dream—that you will make this dream not just mine—make it ours—and so I leave open for you this dash—

Gentle little waves lapping our boat
Reminding us we are in a larger body
Protected expected needed desired
This sea—humans—alive, consciously moving
We dip our oars & exchange a glance
The sea responds to each one
& each to the sea
All is moving & each must move
But when each is aware sea becomes symphony
Meeting is a way of life

Footprints in the Windsm # 912

Footprints in the Windsm # 912

What is my life about? There is a phrase in the Duino Elegies which calls to me: “But what is blowing like a breeze, listen to that, / the uninterrupted message forming itself out of stillness.” It is that message forming itself, the stillness that is G*d, all about us, out of which mist we walk, forming ourselves as we live, forming our lives as we live them, that I want to touch, to live, to simply live. Flowing, uninterrupted, it is. I am. I AM. All related, all part of the mist, the stillness, the is there. My life is about forming my life. My message is about forming my message. My work is about forming our life. It is all about us, forming, forming, out of the mist.

Footprints in the Windsm # 911

A major issue with asking people to attend a several-day event to improve their community is the fear that “We cannot ask people to give so much time.” Actually we must ask people to give—themselves, their time. The value they get out is precisely from what they give. So let’s be bold to ask their commitment—as a gift to them. And if only a few come, remember that we want quality foremost.

Footprints in the Windsm # 910

What if our death were not an end
Nor a beginning over again
In angelic realms?
What if it were a culmination,
A fruit, a seed, a chrysalis,
Exploding colors, sounds, flavors,
Aromas—A Big Bang:
And here we are a dot in
Someone’s death!

Today my dental hygienist told of her neighbor—an older lady—who really needs people to look out for her, but she does not want help. This living story shows we need to invent ways to be neighbors again (or actually from scratch in our new society). It has been a generation or two since people were neighbors and so for the most part we don’t know the art. We will need to create it. And that is good, for our times require of us a neighborly actions to fit our times.

Footprints in the Windsm # 908

Footprints in the Windsm # 908

Obama is metaphor for me: He is a metaphor for dialogue and engagement of everyday people in the work of the community. Beyond engagement to invitation. I do not expect him to solve the country’s ills—I do not want him to do that. I want him to ask me. I want him to ask you. I want him to invite the best and brightest—those on the street, those in the factories, those in the midst of life—to help. And in that sense, his presidency, which has not even begun, is already a success: he has engaged people who never thought themselves political, he has energized a whole new group of people. True, it has only been in the electoral and political process, but that is a start, a teaser. Hopefully they will stay active. Hopefully they will care. Hopefully we will all care enough to work together on this world.
