The really profound can start off feeling ordinary, drear, and dull. Only years or days later do we get to realize.

To see anew we must change the place from which we look. Then we soon come back, carrying a new set of eye mirrors.

What we don’t know about conversation is what we don’t know about each other.

The centerpiece of our conversation is the unknown; and this in one another and our vastness and wonder.

People carry around awe: see how they step in to help a stranger? Even smile to one another? Their lives! Their minds! Their spirits!

Let’s play with play in conversation! Maybe with conversation in play!

It may not be make-believe at the heart of conversation, but the center has the marks of a willing and even mutual suspension.

I’m not ready to say conversation and play are the same, only that conversation can grow from play.

Make a daily entry of what happened in your conversations that day. Most importantly, write it artfully. Why artfully? I can’t say all. I know it’s important.

If play be not like conversation then maybe improvisation is. Surely all conversation is improvised—or ought to be.
