Why do you, tree, stand upright?

Your branches reach out in all directions
Thick green coat all year
For all that you ought to be round!
Even so, you point to sun and stars!

Let us perceive with our imagination what all is there and might be there behind what we think we see, what we have habitually trained ourselves to see and hear. These hold us in chains. We could be larger if we saw what was really there, saw with our imaginations!

To see the real ingrained in our daily round:
Hold infinity, eternity, heaven and world
In the eyes of your imagination

As a poet I must be as a Lewis Carroll—making words dance to my music, not looking for old tunes to express my new meaning. I can—ought—inject new meaning into the word “Love.” Every person a maker.

How might we see what is
Really
In front of us with our
Imagination?

Wherever we look, whatever we see
The beauty we see in trees, flowers, gardens, woods, farms
Are reflections of the minds of the women and men who planted them
The beauty we see in nature about us, birds, bumblebees, butterflies, rainbows
Are reflections of our own minds as much as what’s there,
We choose what we see knowingly or otherwise, and miss what others in other cultures or times might see
The beauty—or ugliness—I see in her or him or Hitler or Saddam, or you
Is as much in my thinking as it is there
Whatever meaning, wherever we look, whatever we see

You are invited to open some space within you to consider the juicy and stomach-turning questions with old and new friends. These people want the best for you, and want to help you.

You are going home. But this experience has changed you. And you want to change your home in some profound ways. So can you ever go home again? What are your first next steps? Who will be your companions on your way? How will you make the difference you are here to make?
