We get flowers and fruit!
See:
gather the butterflies
& we get flowers and fruit!
:- Doug.
What is the good butterflies do?
What truth of theirs do we hear?
Why in their presence are we more beautiful?
:- Doug.
These are the butterflies
The transformed ones
Hear for their brief moment
:- Doug.
I do this law work
All this writing and calculating
And touching the world
So I might speak
With people gathered
And write
My poetry
To lead
My people out
To invite
The True, Beautiful and Good
:- Doug.
Goals and plans are ways
We try to avoid facing the new
—A stand-in for death
:- Doug.
If I would live
Then I must die
—A metaphorical
Mystery
Can the only thing
Remaining be to
Jump into the sacred fire?
:- Doug.
A plan and a goal
From the adventure
Want to betray the pulsing life
To delay our dive
Into our blood
:- Doug.
Today a ladder
Is the metaphor I divine
What do I know?
Does it lead
Into the maw
Or out
Or across the teeth?
:- Doug.
No one wants to tell
Our heart’s desires and plans
To the world before they’re fully formed
And sometimes that’s
Just what we must do
We hold back too long, yes?
For here is our courage
And here our pulsing blood
Will die save we pour it out
:- Doug.
It only takes one other person
To give a soul heart
Find one other, befriend, give, receive
:- Doug.
True life is larger
Than any one life
Though each share in each
When will we discover
The small left behind
Is the road to the larger?
:- Doug.
Give up your will
Writers said
(And here I write Wills
So people can give up
All they possess!)
There is will greedy
To gain the self
And will to leave it behind
The will toward goodness
This lean and expand
:- Doug.
Lives and weaves and grows
All in the world
And then we die again
:- Doug.
Your precious energy ante in
Put on the table your long-held truths
Bet your beauty and your goodness
There is no risk: you lose them all
All is safe: all goes in
:- Doug.
Beyond any religion
Gamble away your love and grace
Gamble away you self
Such does not test God
Nor knock at the door of profit
:- Doug.
Consecrated by danger
A new existence
We may seize
Becoming a new species of human
Walking among humanity
:- Doug.
Shackleton’s perhaps apocryphal ad speaks today for our invitation to conversation: people “wanted for hazardous journey. Low wages, bitter cold, long hours of complete darkness, constant danger, safe return doubtful. Honor and recognition in case of success.” The last doubtful too.
:- Doug.
Are you working for us, or are you working for you?
:- Doug.
