I do not fully understand “The field speaks” but find it evocative, larger than I know, and true. The smaller truth is that in meetings sometimes someone else will speak what I wanted to, and maybe better than I would have. The next larger is the scientific discovery made in widely scattered places by people not in obvious contact with one another. The larger is larger than those and unknown to me, but felt and present.

The field is large
More than one of us
Will hear
& express

When you look down a well
First you see your reflection
With effort you can see deeper

Looking into a well
Dark, life-giving
What lives there? How deep?
From where its flows?
How deep I, flowing where?

Whatever in us is larger
And us draws out
This is God who looks
From heart
The heart?
Both beauty and goodness,
Emotion and will,
Humanity and action:
—Courage—

Do birds ever fly just for fun?
To feel the air through their feathers?
Do puppies ever tumble over each other?
Do humans ever play?
What’s the worth and need of it?

Together we breathe in
In the turn nothing
Together we breathe out
In our conference, this
We take in our observations
Of our environment:
Legal, medical, practical, needs, wishes
We dare to breathe out possibilities
In the turn nothing
In the turn not noticed
In the turn life

The whole is projection of its parts
Just as
The part is projection of the whole

Conversation has the ability to tailor the learning to the person. And it accomplishes this without needing the “teacher” to do the adaptation—we have a wonderful resource right here in each other.

We grow by facing and engaging more of our world. We also grow, as Jung said, by diverting our attention to some other pressing question. Same thing. Both engage us in new to us worlds.

Life seeks its own streams.

All change requires loss
Great change requires great loss
What cost will we consciously pay?
Firm ground vanishes
We step into the void
The price demands something we clutch
Or we see nothing more precious

I am bettering.

:- Doug.

Action—bettering the world—is an interfusing growing out of both individual and interactions within a group. Often one or the other of these elements is invisible. Until we look.

pulls us back for a larger look
shows us multiple vistas
removes individual and group blinders
emerges more choices
saves six months plodding a wrong path
sets our feet on solid ground after the leap
