All of life is a pair of ducks.

Pregnancy is a picture of patience—whatever you do it will take months. Years. Pregnant is what our words and deep inklings are—open, not complete. Completable by anyone hearing; always further completable. Pregnant. What is started by a man and woman will take ninety or so years to complete.

God needs to be weak with us so as to be in communion with us. That’s the true arrow of the desire.

Three hundred years is a call for vision for a future discontinuous with the present.

“Afford” is a code word for “choose.” We choose military uncontrolled cost overruns over health care, giving in to our weariness over getting started on the college degree, or taking on the community project that pulls our heart.

Human responsiveness will come not in eliminating pain but opening our eyes to others’ pain.

The elder is in an excellent place to show us the value in opening to others, in dialoguing with them.
