Meeting our work
We can meet G*d and our selves in our work, our activity, by becoming participants, part of the work, by losing ourselves in the work so that someone else emerges on the other side.

The extended lines
The extended lines of meeting pass through the eternal. You want to see G*d? “There I am in between you.” When you turn to one another, you turn to me.

When we turn to face outside the circle
Opening space means that whatever happens happens, whoever engages engages, and when we gather and disperse is the right time. The true open space, in Buber’s terms, would be the going out into the community from the meeting to meet others and meet more, not the gathering itself. This is how we meet the world and enlarge it. The gathering alone can bend in upon itself becoming egoic, small-group-self-centered, and closing up. When we turn to face out from the circle, this is the opening.
What does it mean to us—an ever more inclusive us—to open space?

Who are you?
Who are you? You cannot say, nor can I say of You. We can only know each other. Know is dynamic, active, doing: from this emerges our being and our meaning. You are emerging. I am emerging. More is emerging. We can never be who we were, only who emerges.

One of you without knowing is Jesus returned. Be alert! It may be the one with whom you are conversing.

It is a frightening thing to meet another human being, yes?

This is why we fear death, for the other human has the opportunity, with a glance, to negate our being, or bring us to birth.

What happens in conversation? Life happens. We birth and are born. We add to the discovered powers of persons.

To use is something you do to It; to experience is something It does to you.

Even in chit-chat
Even in chit-chat can be the glance: sharing music, remembering sayings of our younger years—memory ticklers—; finding agreement across divides. When we notice, we can hope to sustain and attend. What we seek is to know and be known.
