Does taking it larger scatter us?
Does taking it larger scatter us? But no: we circle. We grow larger, more able. For these people too are larger than we first thought. They have gifts for us.

Many comings & goings
Themes arising and dissipating
Odd conversations
Twos and threes of people
Edges of chairs
Bumping, making music, sparking
Rhythm, birthing, bubbling
What the dance?
What the aroma?
What the colors?

Like Rilke, we each, and in each movement, live our lives in widening circles, touching more and more and hopefully being touched and we still don’t know—are we falcon, storm, or song? We are these by turns: sometimes the lone lookout and signal, sometimes gathering power, sometimes expressing the heart of the peoples.

A white hurricane of connected action
Forming
Out of many lights
A center in common holds
Spawning tornadoes at its edges
& at its center
Calm silence generating all the rest
Purpose-filled conversation is

There are times when we ought to approach our conversations as if they were a game of high stakes Bubble Badminton. The object is not to win, but to keep the bubble in the air and growing and have fun! Surely this is high stakes, for the ideas we are birthing are as fragile as this bubble, as fun as the game, and as challenging as keeping this bubble in the air at all costs: blowing, diving for saves, laughing when we are splashed.

A few fireflies can light the world, or at least the part that needs light at any time. I can never know what firefly I have set free. So I will carry my jar and open it whenever I can: Find the lights and carry them where they are needed.

I am writing you this note so that you will live, so that you will embody your divinity, so that you will seize divinity and not let it go till it bless you, which means not just leave its mark on you, but take over your life.
O how much bigger this is than sacrifice and dedicating one’s life and having little ideas of what divinity is all about! G*d you are so much larger, so much more dependent, so much more in love with us! We thought we owned you, or that you owned us! But you are lover!
:- Doug.
Experience is not a good thing if you keep on doing the things that got you into a mess.
:- Doug.
Yes, a world can die:
Do we set out to prove it?
What will you do, G*d,
When Earth dies?

The river is ever there, transporting, carrying, never the same, ever the same. A log, a leaf, a canoe, a fish: it matters to the river not. The river laughs, the river cries, the river is silent power, the river babbles, the river roars. The river goes around obstacles, the river carries obstacles away, the river wears obstacles away. The river cuts the land, is contained by the land. Rock does not hold it back for long; the river thinks in eons. The river is docile, the river is angry, the river does not care but goes on. The river bows to what is lower, takes away the richness of the higher without a bended knee. The river is friend, the river carries us in our play and work, the river stands barring our way. Follow the river goes the song. The river will lead us to towns and cities and people because they all follow the river, too. The river will lead us to the sea—or used to, before we started taking all of its water away. Where has the river gone? Will the river be ever there?
:- Doug.
Light comes out of darkness, we do not comprehend it, it is part of us. We are both darkness and light, one grows out of the other, and in that, richness. There is something larger here, a woods full of life, mysterious, confusing, and the woods is not lost.

Behold the tree:
Its leaves all green in spring
Fire or earthen by late autumn
Seeds on wing or in nut or pod
See that straight row of trees?
Their parent fell there, and true
Keeping offspring in line
Which is its fruit or all?
Leaves or shade or seed
Or from death new life?
O Human, answer:
Your hands, your feet, your children,
Your work, your money, your death
Which is your fruit or all?
:- Doug.
The dog with the hen
In its mouth
Wagging, smiling to its humans
What’s love to one
To another is Danger
For love is all there is
Love well
:- Doug.
