There are times when we try to gather more silence, but each effort opens to us more sounds of the world.

There is a sacrifice for, and a sacrifice of: sacrifice for the all, the larger; and sacrifice of self. This is the difference between the depersonalizing giving up of self by women of our day to become (if at all existing) less than husband and children and family, and the revolutionizing giving up of self for the world by such as Jesus. It is involving the whole being that makes this larger sacrifice. The emphasis is on whole. Investing the whole being makes it holy. Strong sacrifice is not giving up of the self, rather self engagement. Not self divesting but investing of self.

It is about investing the whole self into something larger. As I see the setting, women in our day sacrifice in the sense of becoming nobody, rather than becoming larger. It seems to me a difference of direction that looks like the same thing, but going in 180 degrees different direction. Like fear being repulsion and awe being attraction, the little, the weaker sacrifice is negating the soul, while the larger and the stronger sacrifice is expanding the soul.

To feel with—compassion—is central to hearing—taking in, assimilating into our coeur.

Does it matter? Does it matter what we do? Does it matter that we have done little so far?

We need vision carriers.

Are we but trees whose leaves
Show the passing breeze
Or are we maker of the breeze
Whisperers
Or of the breeze?

“Greater love” may just mean “has received no one save they give their lives for their friends.” Such is the love of everyday mothers and fathers, daughters and sons in caring for families. Such love is available to us.

Stillness enables us to grasp motion—where it exists, when it is needed.

We’re never done working on life.

:- Doug.

Perhaps in Alzheimer’s the brain is not shrinking, it is only not producing new cells. Maybe this disease tells us how a brain works, making freshest memory at the edges. Maybe in studying the disease we can learn about the regular processes.

G*d is the perfume of a lovely woman which, even as we are working with her on some task, pleasantly wafts around us, and when she is no longer in front of us yet lingers.

Smaller groups go deeper faster.

We need holy fire. If this need is not satisfied, it will break out and set fire to what is holy.
