What is light? Where does it come from? Fire. Nuclear reactions as in stars. But also from sea creatures and the foxfire of fungi, from eels and fish and fireflies, and we probably have not found it all. There is also the luminescent materials in dials, hands, scales of navigational instruments.

Find ourselves in another
Such is travel
Around the province of
Conversation
In the neighborhood of
Meeting

Conversation is irrational
flesh, earth
universe

I am an un-guessed
spinning world
longing, maybe, to be guessed

What parts of myself have I not yet given?

Read a poem
by each line’s last word
a fine net cast for its scent

Think of: your self before there
were words; and now returning
to mystery knowing

The earth, my earth, a ball of rock,
chewed to pieces by weather and invisible
organisms, becoming soil,
sprouting green and all colors,
softly, amazingly

A thin cloth covers over. It obscures. It is grey, woven mostly out of what we think we know. This grey fabric hides conversation from us.

Why do I devalue what my hands have done in this life?

Frog, mid-hop into pond
Greening tree, making wind
Instantly full black
Conversing our human lightning
Saying, There are giggling great grandchildren
To be lived toward
