Fermentation we are told is controlled rotting. What a good metaphor for aging: we are fermenting, bringing out the sour and allowing the life to burgeon within.

So this seems to me uplifting. We are like wine and beer and cheese, having a similar process, life. Life!

Our course: To decide what we can do, we can consider: 1. Where are our eyes going? 2. What ought we to develop? 3. What’s spirit got to do with it?

What are futures to work for? Beloved community; tikkun olam; the grandchildren; the generations; others? This is the arrow of our course.

What’s diminishing is youth. What’s developing is maturity, foresight, spirit: wholeness.

Denying our age is often really denying the stereotypes of aging. Instead affirm your health—and your age.
