the tree waving
the dark skies behind
nature even when thundering
is calming

This idea of the larger world responding to the nudges of the elders is worth exploring. The world will resist; why try? The world needs our nudges, and each will help, to that extent. So nudge away.

Ancestor, how do you propose to love the grandchildren in a way that most affects their world for good? There are currently 7 billion ways; only a handful are yours; one causes your eyes to twinkle.

Eldering is a community activity.

:- Doug.

As we change eldering, how will the larger world change in response?

:- Doug.

What is different about the dependence of infants and the dependence of the elders? Possibly: 99% of infants are on the same path; the elders are on varied paths to one terminus.

We can think, or we can be had by thoughts.

:- Doug.

Journaling is conversing with your many voices.

:- Doug.

Might we merge our spirit or consciousness with the 300 year grandchild elders?

:- Doug.

Encourage writing, drawing, doodling, conversing to find, to grow.

:- Doug.

Converse is reciprocal, mutually beneficial, interdependent; it flows all directions out.

:- Doug.

Wisdom may not reside in us but among us—we find it waiting for us—to converse.

Elders are workers in the meaning of life.

Ask the meaning question.

To ask about meaning
changes the value
of meaning

ask a grandchild

Our role
develop meaning
with grandchildren

What is this new meaning of elders? Forget wisdom. It is growing beyond ourselves, beyond our groups. To see that what most delights us is our highest and best, and given freedom, that is the direction in which we will grow. Ask the grandchildren. To unfold meaning. Deeper questions. Participate with the grandchildren; be part of their best.

At this moment the task is changing the meaning of elders, and this can be done in many a conversation.

We don’t finish our dreams because that is the point. We are in the eternal middle. Perhaps in life, too.

Live with butterflies by day and fireflies by evening, taste all flavors, dance the dances, bring all the lights from bright to soft, sing all the notes of the scale: playfully. Hug. With many voices we might yet sing one song.
