What made him holy
What made him holy was he took the courage to be god in the world—that is to live out the unbounded spirit via the bounded body, and with abandon.

The truth is that as folks age they age away from the despair of death, sometimes to welcome it. The denial of death may be a youth and mid-age thing.
:- Doug.
Death is of the richness of nature
We create our world
Death, birth, both
:- Doug.
To heal our world
Heal our soul
(beyond souls)
For there is a soul of us
That’s one
:- Doug.
Poetry is on the edge
of what society sees as useful
pin held to balloon
:- Doug.
The human’s plight: having possibilities that scare us because we might die in the effort. So we ourselves rein in.

Maybe we are the animus mundi
seeing deeply
giving voice
attention paying

I see you
I bear witness to you
I hear you
These are at the center
Of necessary communion
:- Doug.
Communion is
what we have
what we are given
and thrust into in life
what we resist
and shrink from
and what gives us
back to life
in times of grief
and 9-11
and barn-raisings
:- Doug.
Grief and pain are necessary
caused and received
a necessary communion
is redemption
getting through
moving on
life restored
:- Doug.
There is a necessary communion
We mostly unconsciously
Only endure it
:- Doug.
Soul—larger than just me
arising with the mists
over the waters
and the soil
beneath the waters
emerging: all creatures
enfolding: back again to soil
:- Doug.
Inside each others’ minds
we live
The doctor
is not sure
sends us for a test
only again tomorrow
her attention comes back to us
still not clear
then another test
another waiting room
another waiting time
“We can’t be sure
We should watch”
The President
shows his power
(to speak not of his ego)
consternates the international scene
and ours at home
Our spouse
when unhappy, angry,
perturbed with us
or with anything
troubles our emotions
and concentration
We live within others’ minds
they in ours
Tread gently
Shh

My parents died romantically
Sympathetic heart attacks
Ten minutes close together
