Imagination the essence
Is imagination (or some near relative of it) of the essence of conversation? Allowing that others are both different and the same is of imagination. Allowing that we are all background and foreground is also. As is seeing the ephemeral nature of boundaries such as skin and ears. Flow, ideas, imagination—these show us the dance of conversation.

The wisdom from aging
The wisdom from aging arises from a longer view. My longer view is that all is moving, is conversing. So a class in wisdom is a class conversing. I need to hear you—to take you into me—as much as I need to be heard. This hearing constitutes us a living whole.

The issue that has held me back has been I don’t think people will care about what I say. Maybe I mean I have let myself be held back. Or held myself back. Or held others back from hearing my truths.
Maybe I mean hearing me. Or caring about what I care about.
But none of the things I say about others can be true for all, nor for any guessed per centage of others. Even if it were true for all, shouldn’t I avail them of my truth which might be beneficial to them or someone?

As you look at things going on in the world today, from the point of view of your years of life, what do you notice? What matters more and what less? What do younger people not see?

Saying nothing
How put wisdom to use? Perhaps not saying anything. Praying about it. Letters to the editor. Speaking up individually or in groups or meetings. Asking. Encouraging others to think things through, to make their own choices, without being attached to outcomes. What is the wise way to use our wisdom? What does wisdom say?

Pause before
How do we draw out others’ wisdom? Pause before responding. Ponder what folks say and do, the headlines, the advertising signs, the little habits and foibles we all exhibit. Slow down. Look. Ponder on the page or on a sketch pad or in a garden or on a dance floor.

How do we draw out others’ wisdom, and how do we put ours to use?

You are wise. You ought express that wisdom. You have a responsibility to help others draw out and express theirs. And maybe to put it to use.
