If you believe in life eternal beyond this life and I do not: you will choose whatever is right despite what the boss wants, because the consequences to you now do not matter. I will choose to do the good because it is the only thing of us that will make the world better beyond us. So we can agree both in action and being that good is better.

It is perhaps very northern and western to see time made up of continua of “opposite” “ends.” What if just circles blending into one another, a universe with curves but no end edge outside?

Time is a green rubber ball—distorted when bounced or caught—extended when thrown—seemingly prickly with alternate sides—all one side. What holds the ball together? What is outside it? Does what’s outside or what’s inside hold it as one? Or is it many?

How the Zen master teaches is these sparse words, allowing the student to find his or her own path. The master is teaching way, and traveling way, not the forms and shapes the master has found. This makes supreme sense, since each person has their own way. This is what Tao Te Ching was about: pointing in the direction of the way, but not putting up guide-posts.

At the reception last night, I saw a couple of old people who were sitting at tables, staring off into nothing. It seemed to me they lacked the rhythm with the people around them, were no longer in sync. Perhaps they could not hear well enough. They were perhaps “in their own world.”

It was difficult to see the rhythms, the entrainment with all that activity. I need to train myself to look for these things.

Perhaps the stage tonight will reveal something. And people in the waiting area. I think the easier place to look may be when people are in conversation with one another, and the people around observing the conversation.

We have poetic time, which is also beyond profane time. It flies, it reaches back, it reaches into our psyches shadowing us. Convergent, divergent, snaking, devious, and straight on to the core, coeur, corps. Few and fewer words to say more and. Beats and rhythms and flying together are somehow a time out of.

Here’s another time: story time. It is beyond clock time (profane time). Story time stands still. It might actually go back and forth, and in 360 degrees, don’t you think? It brings the future near, obliquely. It harvests the day and the worries of it, at a different angle. All are wrapped in a snug blanket of now…and never…and ever.

I want to read fairy tales in preparation for visiting with grandchildren, which can be any day. I would like to increase my vocabulary of stories of all kind.

We Americans want closure. We want things completed, so they are in the past, done, and do not nag in the back of our heads, are not drags to slow us down. We are movement. We need speed. Not so all humans. We can choose to pick this up, be held by it, or lay it down.

Do all peoples have past, present, and future? Are these concepts always irreversible, non interchangeable? In all events?

Transformations are clocks, too.

What is the bridge between you and this old person? How can you cross? What the nature of the space between you?

:- Doug.

Our work has to be the same as God’s, or what’s a loving for?

:- Doug.

My work, too, is inviting, freeing, calling.

:- Doug.

Rhythm may be the last most core conversation.

The know/kill observation means nursing homes. We do kill each other by ignoring the resident and killing his or her life; we do kill ourselves by making people into projects, into things, and losing our life in the process.

Where does the ocean come from? From the rains. Where do the rains come from? From the evaporation of the oceans. There is a circle, a cycle, a process. Where does the poem come from? From observation. Where does observation come from? From rhythm, from poetry.

Conversation is comparable to God or the other way around. Conversation is a process. Perhaps God too. We are all in the currents together, so we cannot tease out the sender, receiver, nor even the message. We are the one and in the one. The one is rhythm. This rhythm is process and the other way around. This rhythm is comparable to God and the other way around. We are brought forth in conversation and we in turn bring forth the conversation that brings us forth.
