We have the questions we seek
We have the questions we seek.
:- Doug.

How can we in the early 21st Century know when to go from cure to comfort? Or should we like water, like life, gradually flow? Can we, ought we, make such a distinction? Ought we seek to give comfort whenever we can, at all times, ever?
:- Doug.
Carefully consider your feeling
Whether by doing or saying or making this
You are increased
Enlivened
Ask whether others feel this too
Catch who’s in your heart
This is the reliable criterion
To measure the life we engender
:- Doug.
We are only the shapers, the tools
We conceive or place
We improve
We quicken life
We add some peaceful harmony
Or disharmony, distinction, dissent
We revere the moving whole of life
:- Doug.
Each new person
Fits with the others near
Makes the larger more profound
Enlarges it in spirit
:- Doug.
When a city feeds its people, builds highways, and provides medical care to everyone, and the waste is slight, something larger than competition is at work. It seems to be some sort of self-organization.

There will be those who come after me
who are greater than me
there is no doubt of thisthey stand on my shoulders
I provide lift
a whisper
a not yet clear vision
demanding a decision
I do not know I demandthese hold hands with me
already I feel their hands in mine, feel their resolve
and they give me resolveI say to you among them
great as you are, little or much as you know your greatness
there will be those who come after you
who will be greater than you
there is no doubt of thisyou do not have to work so feverishly to get it all done in your lifetime
you do have to work diligently
so they will catch firethis is a bigger responsibility
Please pass it on.

Humanity’s hearts will weave themselves together. They just need to be invited. That’s our role.
:- Doug.
As an elder caring attorney I see the conversations I invite healing the heart of families.
:- Doug.
For the doctor the purpose is getting through the difficult conversation. For the healer, the purpose is in the getting through.
:- Doug.
Last night I helped a family resolve how to get Dad the care he needs without impoverishing Mom. Here’s the hidden thing: I was helping them figure out their pattern to come together years from now when Mom and Dad have left.
