Could this help?

We see the world as competition
We see the world as Dollars and numbers
We see the world as inhuman
Could seeing it otherwise
Help?

Accept your invitation to look

Rarely
Can we tell another what to perceive
And they see solely that
Less still what to make of it
If we each share what we see
We will see more than all
Widen our horizons
Accept your invitation to look

Fill out the detail of our role in life

What we humans are doing every moment is trying to fill out the detail and meaning of our role in life, of how we are important to the health of the world.

missing the other alternatives

How we perceive the world and what we construct out of those perceptions determine what we see and in turn what we do. If we see impossibility, we do nothing; if we see possibility, we re-shape the world into something better. If we see the world as flux, conversation flowing, people loving, we can move easily among peers. If we see competition and threats, we are on our toes, continually choosing between fighting and fleeing: we miss the other alternatives.

The stitches are so fine

The solid foundation
of all there is
is built on what seems ephemeral
—what we perceive and how we re-construct—
they only seem gossamer because
they have no ready handles
the stitches are so fine
and common among us

The courage

It is possible for families to come together. It is possible for families to live while they are dying, some sooner than others. It is possible to have good times in tear time. Tenderness toward one another, knowing and being known, hearing and being heard: life in its essence. It is all conversing.

So the picture is holding a hand, leaning in, not holding back the tears, saying what we have not said before because now it is important, now it is urgent, now we see its significance. Revealing our meaning to one another.

It takes courage. Do we have the courage to offer it, to invite it?

This is where

This is where we come together, this is where we move people along the conversational continuum. This is where we improve our community, where we get to work and make things better.

Engaged with one another

Encouraging the end of life conversation is an entry point, but the vision is bigger: Conversation on a rarer plane, made more common. Rare and common are not opposites but refer to qualities of the conversation. People thinking to converse early and often. A community regularly engaged with one another. Collaborating. Connected at the heart as well as head and hands.
