We need to stand back from our lives. It is from here we can see wisely. This standing back causes us to see from the point of view of another person and more other persons. The more persons’ views the more whole our picture.

Conversation does more than add to or transform people: it produces. It produces actions and something more.
What does it produce? People.
:- Doug.
It does not take a village to make a conversation, conversation makes a village.
Conversation makes us a village.
:- Doug.
This little gift is very disorganizing. It disorients each one who takes hold of it: you cannot remain the same. You are changed. It is a risk, a big risk. Your heart might be torn, your mind shredded. But it is OK: it will all be put together in a new way. At first it might look Picasso-esque, things all out of place, but that is only because you had an inflexible picture of how everything should work. The world is bigger than any of us! So enjoy! What is this little gift? Conversation: letting someone in.
Conversation is giving: giving our selves in the act of speaking ourselves forward; giving our selves in the act of taking another into us, making ourselves one with someone else’s ways and thoughts and histories.
Conversation is a gift to those who hear, and to those who speak. Both get to hear the speaker. Both get to ponder. Both get to engage. Both get to be part of the turning: turning is over and round. Conversation starts things in motion, motion that can reach beyond our space, beyond our time.
What can we do? We don’t know till we converse! Conversing gets things started. We talk our ideas through so we can decide to move. We move singly or together: conversing started the action.
Conversing is the gift I bring. I am lightened by the idea of leaving little packages with bows all round, one here, some few there, a winding trail of lively light!
I bring this little gift: but you have to unwrap it; you have to play with this new toy to get what it has to give. You can leave it on the floor, but what fun is that?

How can you be for the world the voice of the wide seeing eye?

To love is to respond to the beloved; since people are always changing, for God to love means God must constantly respond and therefore continually change.
:- Doug.
The larger is already present. We have a choice to open ourselves to it.
:- Doug.
When we read a history of times we lived through, we see its dangling threads—as if there were one thread! As if we were of one mind making our way with the end in that mind. And yet the as if is true in these stated ways; all but the notion of having one destination in mind at beginning.

All people are better people. Develop better people. Skills come among.
:- Doug.
We work to earn the bread for our table. We work some more and put the excess in savings. That savings is stored energy, the energy of our work and our hearts. The lands we buy, the lasting things we acquire, these too are stored energy. But think of this: the letters we write, the journals we record, these too are stored energy. The prayers we say, the thoughts we send to friends in hospital, these are releasing some of our energy. The play time with our grandchildren, the story times we share with them, these too are releasing our life energy.
