Dying is a time to come close to one another, to round out our togethering. We cannot know what that will mean till we get there, and yet we do. We can practice this part of our dying this day by seeing one another, saying the moment’s truths, arguing well, holding hands.

Intermediates?

People are so goal-oriented, and these are such surface things. Do you really want most in life to lose 15 pounds, gain 15 million Dollars? Are these not stand-ins, intermediate steps to something more important?

Smaller departures

Goals are about winning and losing, impermanent points of departure, always departure. One does not win or lose at life, one lives. Notice goals focus us on ourselves, they circle us ever smaller, while life reaches out graciously, copiously.
